Role Description
Lead business purchasing and category management. The post holder will execute cost-cutting strategies through strategic sourcing. Reduce total product costs while maintaining or enhancing supplier quality and service. Manage the purchasing function, including employees and budgets. Participate in the senior management team’s strategy and decision-making.

Principal Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop overall sourcing strategies for packaged goods, i.e. everyday essentials. Ingredients/raw materials are a secondary focus. Leads new and continued purchases. Develop and implement purchasing strategies to improve efficiency and decrease cost, and negotiate supplier contracts to apply best practices, policies, and procedures.
- Drive business buying and category management pipeline and integrate with company objectives to increase market position through competitive pricing. Forecast price, margin (front and back), profitability, payment conditions, supplier promotions, and market trends to discover buyer-supplier power changes.
- Develop a risk mitigation strategy by monitoring the market to minimize price risk/capture opportunity. Ensure ethical and legal buying. Base business decisions on risk.
- Manage purchasing and cost-estimating budgets. Prepare the annual Purchasing budget, forecasts, and Capital Expenditure proposals. Ensure customer and legal compliance. Budget projects from start to finish.
- Continue developing new suppliers while maintaining a strong alliance and network to assure continuous supply at the most efficient cost and quality improvements to support innovative new product launches. Ensure professional and consistent supplier management across the supply base.
- As a strong leader, set clear and quantifiable targets for the purchasing team and ensure they meet short- and long-term financial and operational goals, including savings, contract execution, and impact tracking.
- Internal stakeholder participation is crucial to satisfying the organization’s needs. As the company’s principal representative with suppliers and external stakeholders affecting purchasing,
- Create an open culture with multi-disciplinary team and stakeholder collaboration. Attract, develop, and retain elite commercial talent. Ensure adequate performance management and succession planning to advise and inspire a varied workforce of top performers to accomplish corporate growth goals.
Qualifications and desired skills:
- A buyer or business manager with a degree. Master’s degree preferred;
- Minimum 15 years’ experience, with 10 in procurement/sourcing or purchasing/supply chain management;
- Category sourcing experience in food ingredients and/or commodities with strong retail as 1st option/FMCG market and everyday essentials knowledge;
- Prior experience leading a varied team for a top retail chain as 1st option/FMCG/ Food & Beverage/ Personal Care/ CPG or large retail chain firm;
- Proven success developing procurement or category strategy to achieve cost and financial goals & growth;
- Proven record of low-cost business model strategy and implementation;
- Transformation or change management success;
- Communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills;
Preferred abilities:
- Power BI, Tableau, Data Studio, etc.
- Excel analysis and data modeling skills (Power Query, Power Pivot)
- Advanced knowledge of ETL (Extract Transform Load) tools like Get and Transform in Excel;
- MySQL experience is a plus but not required.
- Advanced PowerPoint skills.
