THE POSSIBILITY
  • The person in this role will report to the Head of Health Initiatives and be in charge of designing and putting Health as an economic sector into action through the health initiatives strategy, including work with the Africa CDC. Lead strategic planning and execution to advance the Foundation’s programmatic priorities in the pillar of health employment and lead the vaccines initiatives in the assigned region.
  • The person who gets the job will live in either Rwanda or Ghana.

THE WAYS IN WHICH YOU CAN HELP

Design strategies for implementing the health pillar (employment, entrepreneurship, ecosystems) that are based on evidence, and work with others to carry out the vaccines initiative:
  • Make sure that the Pillar strategy, the Health strategy, and the Foundation strategy all work together.
  • Collaborate with regional and national teams to conduct country diagnostics and establish strategic priorities for country implementation.
  • Develop and implement the strategy in collaboration with external agencies at the global and continental levels, local partners, academia, and, when appropriate, the business sector.
  • Create country-level strategic outcomes and program roadmaps, proactively seeking program innovation possibilities.
  • Look for ways to connect and integrate programs across nations and theme teams, such as access to financing and digital technologies.
  • Contribute to the development of the Health pillar team by collaborating with the Head of Health, People, and Culture on talent.
  • Help partners with implementation, collaboration, integration, and innovation across strategic priorities and thematic areas while working with other health pillar leads to achieve success and impact across all pillars of the Health Strategy.
  • Make sure the work you’re doing with the Africa CDC on the vaccinations initiative is having an effect and a positive impact.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the work, both inside and outside the organization, and represent the Foundation and its work to government, academic, business, philanthropic, and civic leaders in the theme area when necessary.
  • Work with your colleagues in strategy and planning and impact to build a monitoring framework to measure impact, make sure things are done on time, and put together what you’ve learned.
  • Help your colleagues with their regional and country programming by sharing your ideas.
  • Work with others to make and manage budgets and make sure spending changes or budget changes are made when they are needed.
  • Build relationships with youth, community, government, and business leaders, as well as program alumni, to get new ideas, advice, and help with programming.
  • Develop, build, and keep up relationships within the Human Capital Development group, as well as with cross-functional teams and regional and country teams.
  • Set up and improve relationships with other stakeholders and agencies that have something to do with the health strategy pillar.
  • Help people integrate, work together, and get together to make a big difference.
  • Lead colleagues well, making sure their work is high quality, safe, and in line with the Foundation’s values.
  • Drive oneness by creating a workplace where people help each other and work together.
  • Watch over how both direct and indirect reports manage their performance.
  • Watch over and manage the facilities and office needs to make sure that employees and visitors have a safe, secure, and productive place to work.
  • Make sure that all local laws and Foundation policies are followed.

What Makes You Unique

  • Master’s/MBA or PhD degree in global development, education, public policy, or a related field required.
  • The job requires 15 years of significant management experience at a senior level in global organizations, with strong leadership experience in international relations, education, development, and/or government or public policy in non-profit organizations, international NGOs, and/or learning institutions.
  • Six (6) years of experience building and leading high-performing teams and being a great leader.
  • Shown experience with financial management, such as making and managing budgets, contracts, etc. It is ideal to have senior-level experience in Africa and knowledge of international issues. Having experience in the private sector would be a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of the country and work experience with the Rwandan government, development, political, and social issues.
  • Proven success in bringing about organizational change and building and leading high-performing teams in an office that is growing.
  • Proven ability to work well with high-ranking government officials, key partners, the media, business leaders, and other influential people.

  • Fluency in languages that are important to the job and the country
  • Excellent strategic planning skills and the ability to put together a structure that meets both the technical and operational needs of the program.
