Description

  • Lead the long-term strategy for technical services, ensuring alignment with overall strategy. Formulate intermediate and short-term tactical plans to drive strategic goals and maximize operational efficiencies and profitability. Improve the technical services team’s capability, customer delivery, stakeholder, and employee satisfaction.

Duties

  • Develop practical designs, strategies, and solutions to provide a safe, efficient, and productive mining environment.
  • Coordinate the mine’s annual budget and quarterly forecasting to meet stakeholder expectations;
  • Identify company risks and opportunities, set short- and long-term goals
  • Oversee yearly Mineral Resources and Reserves Statement reporting.
  • Assess technical soundness, economic viability, fatal defects, hazards, and opportunities.
  • Perform due diligence on new ore deposits, deposit expansions, mining process changes, and mine life extension schemes.
  • Annual strategic business plan oversight and risk assessment.
  • Provide leadership and technical support in geotechnical ventilation, mine planning, survey, and geology.
  • Sets, monitors, and manages function and direct report performance.
  • Monitor, adapt, and develop KPIs to achieve goals.
  • Ensure the content and recovery of mined and processed ore for budgetary purposes.
  • Plan and manage mining operations and finances.
  • Implement excellent business practices and rules that match with the organization’s goals.
  • Ensure compliance with Mine Planning QA/QC processes and plan audits.
  • Develop a planning review procedure to ensure performance is understood and changes are made. Identify plan obtainment risks and improvements with Operations.
  • Ensure a complete and successful succession management strategy for the function. Identify succession role requirements and high potential individuals.

Experience, education, and key skills

  • Bachelor’s/in Master’s Mining Engineering or equivalent.
  • Diplomas Geology or mining degree (preferably Masters level qualification).
  • Minimum 15 years of “hands-on” technical and operational experience in open pit and underground mines.
  • Knowledge of underground mining technologies and applications, open pit mining operations, planning & scheduling, geotechnical and associated subjects.
  • 3D modeling software, tools, and procedures for mine planning, design, engineering, and geology.
  • Metallurgical and mineral processing knowledge are pluses.
  • Good knowledge of numerical modeling tools like DIPS, UNWEDGE, MAP3D and PHASE2.
  • Advanced Whittle or comparable pit optimization software skills and/or ore body and resource modeling experience.
  • Mine Rescue and First Aid certifications desired.
  • Analytical and planning skills to predict technical obstacles.
  • Budgeting, planning, scheduling, and financial (cost) management experience needed.
  • Production and cost targets met.
  • Excellent organizational and time management, especially meeting deadlines.
  • MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, MS Project)
  • Leadership, people management, and interpersonal abilities required.
